O cuidado do “pobre” entre os séculos VIII e X: uma questão política "global"?

Resumo

Entre os séculos VIII e X, diferentes autoridades governantes no Ocidente e no Oriente expediram normas em favor dos “pobres”. Neste artigo, pretende-se entender os motivos que as levaram a se ocuparem do tema, em especial da “opressão dos pobres”. Sob a perspectiva da “História Global”, realizou-se uma abordagem comparativa favorecendo a identificação de fenômenos transformadores e particulares, ao mesmo tempo em que se repensou as interpretações tradicionais da historiografia a respeito dos “pobres” em ambos espaços. Observou-se que os usos dos termos referentes a eles nos textos normativos bizantinos e carolíngios não foram apenas um testemunho estatístico do empobrecimento de suas respectivas sociedades, mas também resultado dos interesses dos agentes envolvidos na elaboração destes documentos, as cortes bizantina e carolíngia, tratando-se também de uma questão política.
