Abstract

The Authors examine formed feces of pigs, trying to find cysts of Entamoeba lzistolytica in these animais, considered reservoir of the pathogenic Entamoeba of men by some authors. Out o f 312 animais examined, 94,87% were positive for cysts o f intestinal protozoas. lt was found: Entamoeba polecki in 67,95%, lodamoeba bütsclzlii in 53,21c;lr, Endolimax sp. in 8,97%, Balantidium coli in 17,31%, Giardia sp. in 0,64%, Eimeria sp. 41,35%, Triclzomonas sp. in 0,64%, ClziIomastix sp. in 1,28%.They discuss the different species of amoebidae found in pigs, considering Entamoeba polecki (Prowazek, 1912) and Iodamoeba bütsclzlii (Prowazek, 1912) the most frequent. They refer to negative findings in relation to Entamoeba histolytica, coming to the conclusion that pigs, in normal conditions of life, are not reservoir of this rhizopod of men.
