The method of semiquantitative determination of urinary coproporphyrin, originally described by de Langen and ten Berg, has been modified by various authors, mainly as to thl: volume of urine used, quantity and types of reagents, manner of shaking and the observation of a standing time before reading the fluorescence. In the present report these modifications are suhjected to a comparative analytic study, with a view to ascertaining the best procedure for the test, to be used in small laboratories annexed to medico-industrial services. Use o f a "black light" lamp as the source o f ultraviolet radiation is recommended and a small portable dark chamber for the observation of fluorescence is described. The importance of keeping the samples of urine strictly protectecl from light once they are collectcd is stressed.Downloads
