PESQUISA DE ANTICORPOS FIXADORES DE COMPLEMENTO PARA VÍRUS RESPIRATÓRIO SINCICIAL EM HABITANTES DA CIDADE DE SÃO PAULO

Abstract

Complement fixation tests carried out in WHO haemagglutination plates, and performed in 271 sera from inhabitants of São Paulo, showed specific antibodies to the respiratory syncytial vinis. ln a group of students from a Medicai School, 60,9% of them had antibodies at a titre > 4; in a group of students from a Nursing School that percentage was 62,R% and 72,6% in a group of workers from a cotton mil!. A study carried out in these workers showed no relation between the frequency of antibodies, blood groups A and O, age group, and occupational activities. lt was revealed in 99 sera from students, by, at least, a 4 fold elevation of the antibody titre, 4 cases of respiratory syncytial vinis infection. In the group of workers from which we obtained only one sample of serum there were 2 cases with a titre of 256, probably suggesting a recent respiratory syncytial vinis.
