The article intends to understand the religious experience of women prayers from the Quilombola do Baixão Community, located in the Southwest region of Bahia. The research carried out during the period from October 2016 to March 2018, which had Oral History as its working methodology, made it possible to understand how images and symbols related to Catholicism and African-based knowledge are in continuous negotiation processes and engender in other networks that regulate the daily life of the community, translating into what we define as the religious experience in the Baixão community. For the apprehension of this experience, the figure of two rezadeiras, better known as Dona Tuga and Dona Bezinha, is the key element and represents memory, knowledge, and especially, the symbolic presence of an ancestor. Its altars have become the center of our analysis because they tell a lot about the history of their prayers and the community, it is a sacred and socially identified space.
