Abstract

This article analyses the construction and reinforcement of the identity of people from Paraná state. It focuses on the context and the set of social relationship these migrants face in "Cidade Aracy" district, located in São Carlos, countryside of São Paulo state. In this district there are some social representations that favor the people from Paraná in contrast to migrants from northeast Brazil. These representations generate better positions, also in the job market, to people from Paraná. These people have a pathway through other states in Brazil, such as Bahia, Minas Gerais and São Paulo. But these social representations help the identity of people from Paraná to prevail.
