This paper reviews the film Manifesto by Julian Rosefeldt, which features 13 segments, built upon historical manifestos from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, starring actress Cate Blanchett. The film starts with the first modern manifesto the Communist Manifesto (1848), then continues to 20th century avant-garde and reaches today’s Conceptual Art. Although the artistic and political manifestos of the past centuries are widely studied and known, our interest lies in how the film appropriates them and makes their words visible in cinematographic images conducted by an inner monologue performed by Blanchett. Another interesting aspect lies in its reflection on the multiple possibilities of the art of acting.
