Abstract

The voluptuous microrecorded collection Brazil’s Popular Groups was or-ganized for more than 30 years by the representation office of the Library of Congress (LOC) of Rio de Janeiro. Based on the collection of ephemeral materials – mostly banners, flyers, and magazines with few printings and short lifetime –, the collection presents around 60 years of history of a varied group of Brazilian social movements. From the understanding that collections result from processes of narrative construction of the collector, this article intends to shed light to the distinct temporalities and subjectivities that headed the historicity and the narrative construction of the Brazil’s Popular Groups, and, at last, show how those processes occur and how the narratives resulting from them are enunciated by public dimension collections.
