In this paper I try to introduce the main results of my M.A. thesis derived from a two-years’ ethnographic research with a focus on the Japanese Agricultural Colony of Rio Bonito - PE, one of the three main concentration points of Nikkei in the State of Pernambuco, along with Recife and Petrolina. As well as the analysis of oral and written discourses, apart from outlining a istoriographic and cultural composition of place, I have tried to show and to approach the emergence of transnational dynamics, and to understand how they operate in different spaces of sociability. The members of the colony in Rio Bonito have, since the beginning, established different Brazil-Japan Bonito-Recife, Bonito-Southeast connections, which find a correlate in the formation of communities that transcend local matters,as well as in the conformation of new syntheses of identity. Thus, identity is shown as operating in two different planes in tension: the local and the global one.Downloads
