This article investigates the affinities between Max Horkheimer’s thought and Arthur Schopenhauer’s, taking as a guiding thread the concept of reason, as presented by both. In doing so, we will try to point to the different interpretations of the Schopenhauerian philosophy, especially concerning his proclaimed conservatism, emphasizing the originality and the perspicacity of Horkheimer’s interpretation, which originated a “Schopenhauerian left”. Our goal is also to rethink the meaning of the concept of rational systematicity and its critique by Schopenhauer and Horkheimer.Downloads
