The bioethics and the physiotherapy in the Intensive Therapy Units

Abstract

The physiotherapists whose work at the intensive therapy units daily takes care of patients in a very serious clinical conditions, some of the cases, in
addition, are in a life risk circumstances. This research had the objective to draw an image of the physiotherapy professionals whose work at intensive
therapy units and identify these professionals opinion about some topic in
bioethics as: terminal patients, patient's autonomy, euthanasia and disthanasia. Therefore was applied a questionnaire to the physiotherapy professionals whose work at the Hospitals in Alagoas. Among the results found it is possible to show up that: All interviewed answered that they
explains the procedures to be applied to their patients. About active euthanasia, when asked to the physiotherapy professionals opinion, 6% answered that they approve this procedure and 96% are against. About passive euthanasia, 74% of the group interviewed answered that they are against and 26% approve this procedure. Some conclusions obtained refer to the terminals patients and the right to receive information about the treatment and the not acceptance of the passive or active euthanasia for the greater number of the physiotherapists interviewed.
