Abstract

The development of science throughout history has also been linked to the development of communication technologies of each era. In this sense, the present work proposes to trace a historical panorama from the Republic of Letters — in which the communication by letters was predominant — until the climax of space communication, facilitated by the development of special systems and routinely portrayed in science fiction productions. We highlight the internationally renowned literary and audiovisual production of The Martian, a work in which the science communication, at its technological peak, plays a crucial role in the plot development.
