The present review considers the principles of film adaptation of Western literature classics, according to Robert Stam’s proposal in Literature through film: Realism, magic and the art of adaptation. Beyond the pattern of “fidelity to the Canon”, here we underscore the polyphonic structure of the text, its genre and media hybridism and its reference to political and social contexts that make both literature and cinema expressions of a more complex universe: contemporary culture.Downloads
