Abstract

A lot has been written about several features of the
Greek epic, Homer’s Odyssey. However, its influences,
or rather, similarities with tales from other countries
have been less studied. In the present study, we compare
the tale of Depegöz, contained in the Turkish epic cycle
called Dede Korkut Oğuznameleri, or the “Book of Dede
Korkut”, with a Brazilian tale collected in the countryside
of the state of São Paulo. As for the which is the original
tale, either the Turkish or the Greek one, or even another
one, there are only hypotheses.
