Abstract

In this paper, we aim to reflect on the gap between the empirical reader and literary criticism, questioning the fact that sometimes the evaluation of the quality of a book ends up reflecting a judgment of the reader, and his experience in the act of reading. We argue that literary criticism could play an important role in the formation of new readers, if involved in a process of knowledge and recognition of the repertoire of these subjects, which could not be evaluated just considering the criteria of “value”, as “passion” is also involved.
