Abstract

The article discusses how the intensification of urban climate changes may affect population’s health and alter the incidence pattern of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). The study starts with the statistics of the public hospital admissions due to AMI in the City of São Paulo and compares the data with the monthly results of maximum average temperature, minimum average temperature, average temperature and hours of sunlight. The authors emphasize the need to analyse the whole climate data in order to study their effects on human organism. The studied period comprised January 2000 to December 2017.The atmospheric levels of SO2, CO, NO2 and O3 were also analyzed in the time periods under evaluation. The results show the impacts of the intensification of urban heating on the pattern of public hospital admissions due to AMI. The conclusion is that urban heating may affect public health, justifying the need for further studies on this subject.
