Abstract

A militant of the Liga Operária during the Military Dictatorship, she was arrested in 1977 for distributing flyers at the doors of ABC Paulista factories. Like other left-wing militants, she faced the basements of the dictatorship and was tortured. She felt the weight of censorship, of repression to the free expression of thought and to citizen autonomy. The dictatorship interrupted her education as an historian, but she would return to university again and again. She is currently a doctoral student at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP), researching the history of that same university in the times of the dictatorship. In this interview, we will talk with Márcia Bassetto, a doctoral student, about the long and tortuous trajectory of university autonomy in Brazil.
