The configuration of School Physical Education in the period of the military dictatorship is a field of investigation still little explored. Among other objects, what escaped the few scholars of the subject was a more detailed analysis of the specialized periodicals in Physical Education and sports. Between 1964 and 1985, twenty-four issues of the “Revista de Educação Física” were published – since 1932, the official communication vehicle of the Brazilian Army Physical Education School. In this article – which is a research product developed from 2011 to 2013, along with the Post-Graduation Program in Physical Education of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – we will make three movements. First, we will examine aspects of the materiality of those issues. Next, we will elaborate the thematic index of the published articles. Finally, we will appreciate the production on Physical Education in school. Thus, we will discuss the process of construction and defense of the hypothesis contained in the cited research. We have argued that the “Revista de Educação Física” (1976-1979) was more than a spokesperson for the military regime, potentially as an obstacle to the implementation of official school physical education strategies in Brazil. From this perspective, we will try to demonstrate how, by putting into circulation alternative conceptions about the curricular component, this form contradictorily generated conditions so that professionals in the area could appropriate different foundations of the model propagated by the military dictatorship through of the “Politics” and of the “National Plan of Physical Education and Sports”.
