Abstract

The goal of this research was to evaluate the differences in the physical and chemical characteristics of the soil in two opposite slopes located in the same area, under Pupunha palm tree cultivation, which have different lithologies and morphologies, and are under the same agricultural management. For this study, we used the Cultural Profile technique, observing the structural state and morphology of the profiles, the agricultural management, as well as visual aspects of vegetation and biological activity. It is concluded that the lithology of the study area, diabase and limestone, originates soils with different levels of clay-minerals, associated with factors such as landforms and climate, resulting in shallow soils with low edafic potential and little pedogenization. The study showed that the differences in the chemical and physical characteristics of the two slopes occur, mainly, due to the lithology and morphology of the area, and the agricultural management has no influence on these differences, since the human impact is sporadic and of low intensity.
