A method for the photometric determination of magnesium based on the precipitation of this element with 8-hydroxyquinoline was studied. A number of interfering ions are precipitated as the oxinate in a acetic acid-sodium acetate buffered solution. Calcium is separated as the oxalate at pH — 4.5-5.3 and the washed magnesium oxinate is dissolved in hydrochloric acid, coupled with diazotized naphthionic acid to a permanganate colored stuff. The photometric measurements are made with the Zeiss-Pulfrich step-photometer, with the use of filter S-50. Comments are made on the method.Downloads
