Abstract

This paper deals with avitaminosis in dogs (36 males and 17 females) and cats (1 male and 1 female). The conclusions are the following:

1) A process of avitaminosis was observed in 53 dogs and 2 cats, (nicotinic acid, B1, B2, -pantothenic acid).

2) The lack or deficiency of meat in the diet, at the moment the observations were gathered was admited as the etiological factor.

3) The identification and description of this process represents, probably, the first contribution in Brasil (São Paulo), to the study of avitaminosis in dogs and cats.
