Abstract

The A. A. discussed concepts in oedema formation, with special regard to veinous oedema. In eleven cases, where the total ligature of vena cava caudalis was made after the arising of renal artery, the followings conclusions are considered:
1) This surgical intervention adopted was compatible with animals survival.
2) Circulatory disturbances were not present in treated animals, and oedema formation was not always observed.
3) The oedema of posterior extremities that arose in some cases, disappear during post-operative period.
4) The venous ligature was accompanied by new collateral blood supply as could be demonstrated by phlebography.
5) Anatomical and hemodinamical factors are evoked to explain the absence or the rapid disappearance of edema.
6) The A. A. suggest this procedure as a method for palliative treatment of congestive heart failures in dogs.
