Abstract

In order to know the performance of Lacaune sheep under sub-tropical conditions body weight was studied in the first flock raised in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. One hundred nineteen animals including males and females, singles, twins or triplets were kept in confinement and weighed at zero, 10, 30, 70, 150 and 270 days of age. The results showed that Lacaune sheep were well adapted to those conditions and the body weight gains were very similar to those obtained for Suffolk, Ile de France and Hamspnire sheeps.
