Abstract

Twenty crossbred dry cows were used to test selenium supplementation in salt mixtures ingested “ad libitum” in pasture. Average daily intake of salt mixture was 25 g per cow which is equivalent to a selenium consumption of 1.1 g (as sodium selenite). Treated cows showed significantly (p ≤0.01) higher serum selenium levels than control unsupplemented cows.
