Abstract

This paper outlines the theme of the Golden Age, through its evolution and the transformations it has undergone, as it has come up, insistently, in Western culture since Hesiod. To do this, I examine three important literary sources in which it surfaces preeminently: Lewis Carroll, Dante and Cervantes. From this perspective I try to show how the ideal of the Golden Age turns up in the memories of Riobaldo, in a way peculiar to him and, at the same time, similar to how it appears in the aforementioned literary examples.
