On reinventing distance: performing arts and cultural action during the COVID-19 pandemic

This article presents two artistic and pedagogical experiences in performing arts developed, within the scope of cultural action, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It reflects on the challenges faced and discoveries made by two art-educators and their students regarding dance and theater, in two public arts education programs offered the metropolitan region of São Paulo. To analyze these experiences, the texts draws on Boaventura Souza Santos’ questioning about the crisis in dialogue with Guattari’s ideas of subjectivity and affection, and of experience, artistic creation and culture. Based on Pierre Lévy’s reflection developed in Cyberculture, it questions art, education and cultural action in cyberspace, from an ethics and aesthetics made contemporaneous by the digital universe.
