This article uses film analysis to investigate three films by Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, Vinil Verde (2004), O Som ao Redor (2012) and Aquarius (2016), in order to identify the use of elements characteristic of the horror genre. The recurrence of these elements in the director’s films and the way they relate to other representation regimes situates this production within a contemporary cinematographic trend already pointed out by researchers such as Cánepa (2013).
