In the present study, the results of the Schick-Test with the diphtheria antitoxin titers in children were compared. The sample comprised children from an institution attended by the Health Center of the School of Hygiene and Public Health. The study was carried out in 4 to 12 year old females not vaccinated against diphtheria. The Schick-Test was performed on 65 subjects and circulating antitoxin levei was determined in 51.22 Schick-positives (33.9%) were found as compared with 43 (66.1%) Schick-negatives. It was found that Schick-positives showed leveis varying between less than 1/500 UA/ml and 1/166.7 D_A/ml, and Schick-positives, between less than 1 500 UA/ml and more that 1/0.7 UA/ml. Of the 17 Schick-positives, 16 (94.1 %) had antitoxic leveis below 1/166.7 UA/ml and cnly one (5.9'%) showed a titer of 1/166.7 UA/ml as compared the 34 Schick-negatives which showed 28 (82.4%) subjects with leveis of 1/166.7 UA/ml or more and 6 (17.6%) a titer under 1/166.7 UA/ml.Downloads
