Abstract

Visual representations of Marilyn Monroe follow two main strategies: the construction of the myth (photographers) and the constitution of a critical memory (visual artists). Since de Kooning the image of the star is a constant presence in visual arts. As a proof of the permanence of a mythical icon such image includes the pop generation and contemporary artists.
