Peer Review Process

- Ars adopts a blind peer review system (ad hoc partnership) with the collaboration of renowned professors/researchers of Brazilian and foreign universities, which guarantees, at the same time, accuracy and transparency in the evaluation criteria.

- The papers submitted are firstly evaluated by the editors, who verify their accordance to the provided submission guidelines, to the focus and scope of the journal, to its evaluation criteria. Ars’ Editorial Team reserves the right to refuse articles that do not meet the appointed qualitative criteria or editorial guidelines. Articles approved in this first step are next submitted to a blind peer review system (ad hoc partnership), which will lead to the rejection, approval or suggestions of improvements to be reviewed by author.

- The articles will be evaluated according to the following criteria: adequacy to the journal’s scope and editorial guidelines; originality (unpublished work); ability to articulate the repertoire / knowledge of artistic repertoire; critical-reflective abilities; contribution to the current debate on history, criticism and theory of art and contemporary culture; proficiency and use of language in accordance with scientific publication; accordance to the guidelines for submitting authors.

- The peer review process lasts 6 (six) months, at the end of which the author shall receive an email with the settled decision.

-  In case of multiple authors, the names that can be listed as co-authors are those who have performed all of the following tasks: substantial contribution to the conception or development of the article, writing of the original papel or revision of content of the final and approved version. All co-authors assume the responsibility for the information presented in the article. Mentors that do not fulfill the tasks listed above should not be mentioned as co-authors.

- Multiple submissions made by the same author will not be forwarded to the review process. It is the author’s responsibility to assure that there is only one active submission in the system.

- If the reviewers suggest amendments for the article, the author must present the necessary adjustments and resubmit the paper within 3 (three) months from the date of response. Submissions that exceed this period will be canceled.

- The author must wait for a period of 2 (two) years from the publishing date to submit a new article. Papers presented before this period will not be considered for evaluation. This clause is also valid in case of one co-author who has published in the journal in less than 2 (two) years.

- Submissions must be made through the OJS system, which can be accessed from our website. Ars also accepts papers filed in preprint repositories, which will also be submitted to the regular peer review process.

 - Ars does not charge any type of fee for the submission, evaluation and/or publication of articles
