Abstract

This article reports, based on interviews and participant observation, the trajectories of singer-composer women of songs on the current city of Rio de Janeiro with the objective of analyzing how the gender-based dynamics interfere on the life of these artists. Here we discuss how the increasing creation of collective movements and musical events headed by women can transform the inequalities of the area’s current professional scenario. The appreciation of the life story and individual narratives becomes an important source of knowledge for the musicology area, highlighting lesser acknowledged trajectories in music history.
