Thin section of soil and weathered rocks are made using an artificial hardening process. A new method involving continous impregnation by industrial varnish for this purpose on such varied materiais as bauxite, soil and altered rocks is here reported and compared with other methods. Results show that the use of varnish is better than resin in terms of both quality and preparation time principally because of the greater fluidity of the varnish. ín addition, this method is more economical than the resin method as excess varnish may be reutilized
