Abstract

In this articleI intend to analyze the trajectory of the black anthropologist Marlene de Oliveira Cunha, who was one of the first to work in the field of Anthropology the subject of gestures, comprising the body, dance and the African ancestry in Brazil. In the first part of the article I describe his participation in the black university movement and his entrance into African American studies. Then I present his proposal to analyze the gesturality in the candomblé of Angola in the 80’s and the connections with the current studies of dance anthropology. In the third part I do make an analysis of the ethnography provided regarding the postures: gincado, adobá, barravento and arrebate. In the last session I make an analysis of the research on the gesturality and its contributions to the line of research on Afro Brazilian religion and dance anthropology.

    Doutorando e Mestre em Antropologia Social no Museu Nacional / UFRJ; Especialista em Educação e Relações Étnico-Raciais e Licenciatura em História ambas pela Universidade Federal Fluminense, Licenciatura plena no curso de Turismo pela Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. Trabalho na área de Educação e relações étnico-raciais, ligado ao patrimônio imaterial e a cultura afro-brasileira com as comunidades jongueiras da região sudeste no programa de extensão Pontão de Cultura Jongo/ Caxambu - UFF e com as comunidades afroparaguaias (Kambakua e Emboscada), praticantes do Candombe. Além disso, venho atuando em pesquisas relacionadas ao campo do Turismo Comunitário, Histórico e de Memória.
