This work analyzes elements of gypsyidentity found in their forms of collective identifica-
tion, how this identity is narrated, and the elements
that articulate a vision of social group. With this
purpose, it chooses as its empirical model groups
of gypsies residing in the city of Sousa (PB). It also
analyzes the importance of religiosity for a signifi-
cant portion of the gypsy community regarding its
cultural identity.
