This work has as its objective theconnection between a fieldwork about the meet-
ings between street children and educators and
theoretic-methodological perspectives that aim to
relocate ethnographic representation. For this end,
a contrast is offered between recent anthropological
analyses about this theme, in which an interpreta-
tion is elaborated through the use of terms such as
family and society and an analysis that begins with
the social relations that run through these terms
and beyond. As such, an attempt is made to elicit
the multiple social planes and relations that cross
this theme. This article tries to elaborate an alterna-
tive for the analysis of phenomena that are normally
defined by their “lack of...” and thus outlines re-
flections about the very idea of one ethnographic
“reality”.
