The idea that artistic creationcomes from non-human worlds is a verypresent theme in the lowland SouthAmerica ethnology (Taylor, 2003; Viveirosde Castro, 1986). This article offers avision about this subject expanding itsdescription to an analysis of the socialplace of beauty and ugliness in the graphicart of the Wauja Indians of the UpperXingu river. I argue that the wauja aestheticpaysage is framed by ideas of excellence andperfection which must achieve fullness inthe great rituals performed for high rankindividuals.Downloads
