Mimesis of oneself: the construction of Paresi self-representation

Abstract

This article reflects on the mimesis stated through the Paresi (Aruak indigenous group) photographic mise-en-scènes in dialogue both with the first images of them produced about themselves in the beginning of the XX century, and through the performed mise-en-scènes in the Miss Paresi Haloti beauty contest, occured in 2012. For each context, they choose which diacritics signals are more appropriate to conform the relationship established with their Others.
