Abstract

There are several concepts that define journalism as a space for shared knowledge, built agreement, common sense, information, social knowledge, cultural mediation of daily life or element of the public sphere. This manuscript searches for theoretical and historical clues that will help to organize thoughts on journalism as a space for building meaning after tracing several studies on the topic. Two branches get special attention here: the social construction of reality and the perception of journalism as a symbolic and mythic story telling process. At the intertwining point of these branches, journalism may be thought as an exercise of world view.
