This article presents a sample of a major research about Culture Markers in Journalistic Texts developed by the research group TRAC from the Federal University of Santa Catarina - Brazil. We intend to demonstrate in here some cultural characteristics that can be observed in news reports about caffeinethat were published by the National Geographic Magazine in January 2005 in the Spanish, Portuguese, German and English languages. The purpose is to prove that in the journalistic text, even though it is a sample, the concept of translation can be conceived as a cultural representation. As a consequence, the writer-translator should consider such a reality while adjusting the final text to a wider range of readers in prospection, either in the source-text or in the target-text.
