4th CLAGlo summary, Theoretical conceptions, Glottopolitical initiatives, Political-ideological analysisAbstract
The following is an overview of the topics discussed at the congress, based on notes taken from the presentations. The presentations have been classified into three groups to provide an order to the topics and, at the same time, to complement each other so that it is possible to unveil which glottopolitics research areas matter most to Latin American researchers (who, we believe, have been well represented in this congress). The suggested classification is: a) presentations which embody either a defence of heterogeneity or a resistance to homogenisation; b) a topic division into theoretical aspects – highlighting some new or redefined concepts-, ideas about language, analysis of concrete situations and proposals in language policy; c) the articulation in a language policy and planning strand (including non-state actors) and in a political-ideological studies strand of what Guespin and Marcellesi refer to as “all the facts of language where the action of society assumes a political character” (mainly discourse analysis studies). Furthermore, this summary focuses on the approaches shared by the speakers, and closes with some topics that were insufficiently covered, or not covered at all, and that could be enlarged upon in the next congress.
