The following lines propose a comparative analysis of a set of Latin American novels starring homosexual characters and published throughout the 20th century. The article is concerned with demonstrating that these novels reproduce the heterosexuality-homosexuality dichotomy and, consequently, the discourse that considers inter-male sexual relations to be inferior or abnormal. In the analysis, some constant narratives that contribute to this reproduction stand out, such as the recurrence of stereotypes of masculinity and femininity, the egocentrism of homosexual characters and the lack of questioning of institutional discrimination. It is concluded that what is represented in these novels are the mechanisms of exclusion and discrimination of homosexuality, and with them heterosexism and homophobia.
