Abstract: This article examines Isaiah Berlin’s concept of liberty in the broader context of his philosophy. This examination has two main purposes, which indicate its importance: (i) to highlight the predominantly historical (and not analytical) nature of Berlin’s intellectual project; (ii) to indicate two errors that are commonly made regarding the interpretation of his “positive” and “negative” concepts of liberty.
