Catholic religiosity in a context of rural-urban transition

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe a specific aspect of the Brazilian religious are, the Catholicism in the rural context, with emphasis on religiosities which are the product of ambiguous relations of their own religious context. This means that the experiential context of rural religiosity, in contact and related with an external context of urban religiosity, reworks a new type of rural religiosity. In this case, the context passes to be denominated the transition context, of cultural change, of habitus transformation and it may be observed as dynamic religiosity, hybrid, in which it continuously participates in a process of renewal and transformation of itself and of the space where it belongs to. It is privileged the study of the religiosity´s manifestation inserted in a rural area located in the suburbs of São Paulo, specifically in Mato Dentro´s neighborhood, in the city of Franco da Rocha.
