Abstract

The present paper discusses certain peculiarities of migration, asobserved in the foreign colonization process in some regions of Santa CatarinaState. This began in 1829, with the founding of the german colony of São Pedrode Alcântara. My analysis looks at the formation of peasantry derived fromimmigration, in a context involving the settlement of public lands, encouragedand regulated by the Brazilian State. I take into consideration movements ofpeople and groups as one of the structural principles of this process. Within thisperspective, the article focuses upon some indicators of peasant condition in acausal relationship with mobility and the ways in which this played out duringthe historical course of this territorial occupation.
