Learning with the immigrant: the multi / intercultural production of diversity in Portugal

Abstract

This article has as main object of analysis three publications produced and disseminated under the Plan II Integration of Immigrants from Portugal whose overarching goal is to promote interaction and dialogue with the cultural and linguistic diversity and religious. Main aim of the paper is to confront the publications with the ideas that have guided the debate about diversity in their multi/intercultural versions and therefore contribute to the deepening of policies for immigrant integration and diversity management. The product was developed based on literature review and theoretical foundation, secondary data published by the UN and field observation in Lisbon developed during the course of my post-doctoral. The analysis undertaken based on the discussion of multi intercultural allows me to say that publications do not present ready models of integration and diversity management and, at the same, takes the reader to a situation, and also an ideal immigrant with whom the / a Portuguese / she can learn.
