The Dean of the Doctoral Program in Communication Sciences of the University of Minho (Portugal) and member of the Center for Communication and Society Studies (Cecs), Professor Manuel Joaquim Silva Pinto, gave an exclusive interview to Comunicação & Educação journal in the occasion of his visit to Brazil. Manuel Pinto tells us what motivated his entrance into the field of Education for Social Communication. He also addressed the results of his researches about the role of journalism in this area and stressed the importance of looking at children not only as sons and daughters or students, but as subjects who have their own rights of expression and participation.
