Derrida and Barthes: between singularities and pluralities

Through the tribute from Derrida to Barthes in his essay “The Deaths of Roland Barthes” the article intends to draw the meeting points between both thinkers amid the pluralities of their ideas and also in their singularities. “It pierces, strikes me, wounds me, bruises me, and, first of all, seems to concern only me. [...] The absolute singularity of the other addresses itself to me” (2001, p.39), says Derrida in his essay. The insurmountable spots between an individual and other create the singularities, at the same time that they contribute, in an aporia, to the pluralities of paths, possibilities and ideas. The apparent paradox between these two and the coexistence of both in the same space will be analyzed, in an attempt to find consonances between these important thinkers, who are distinct from one another but who, at times, have worked, in their respective pieces, with similar questions.
