This paper proposes a debate on the notion of authorship based on the idea, found in Plato's dialogue Ion, of poetry not as technique or ability but as the result of a “divine inspiration”. This perspective will be matured within the next centuries, as society turns secular. Even though transformed, this notion keeps being central in the Twenty’s century thinking and, as we can see, will impact the questioning of authorship, for instance, in Roland Barthes’s and Michel Foucault's thinking.
