This article proposes a reading of Judith Butler's book Gender Trouble, which discusses the distinction between sex and gender, questioning the variable construction of identity. It focuses on queer theory, in an attempt to explain concepts such as performance and performativity, employed by Butler to analyze the socially constructed nature of gender. This article gives some suggestions for the reading of literary novels that address issues related to gender trouble and androgyny and concludes with some facts published in the press that serve to make us aware of their importance.
