This article suggests an analysis of the novel The invention of Morel (1940) by Adolfo Bioy Casares, focusing the investigation on the invention, in the scientific and literary senses; starting at this, we think the hypothetic dialog with the novel The magic mountain (1924) by Thomas Mann. Taking into account the isolated scenario linked to an illness and aspects such as music, time, love and social classes in evidence, we seek to investigate the equivalences, some possible unfolding, even the hypothetical Thomas Mann’s musical answer to the supposed homage of Bioy Casares. The comparing includes works with the same themes by some other writers, seeking echoes of the previous ones, consonances in the contemporary ones, and influent in the later ones.
